Parking and Tickets
Parking and attendance will be free of charge with no required passes or tickets for students or guests.
Guests may arrive with the graduate or just prior to the beginning of the ceremony. This is not a ticketed event, so seating is on a first come, first served basis. The earlier guests arrive, the better chance they have of getting the seats they prefer. Doors will open for seating at 1:30pm. The doors will close promptly at 2:25 pm in order to start the graduation procession.
This is a very special day for you and your family and friends. We hope everyone enjoys the event. However, please keep in mind that small children and babies may cause a distraction during the ceremony.
INSTRUCTIONS AND OVERVIEW FOR MAY 9th CEREMONY:
Assembling Prior to Ceremony – Be there at 1:00pm on Friday, May 9th!
All graduation participants, dressed in full academic regalia, must meet in the foyer of the Special Events Center NO LATER than 1:00pm. ALL GRADUATES MUST SIGN IN AT THE REGISTRATION TABLE. In order to ensure a place in the graduation lineup, you must register and receive a name card. Keep this name card with you throughout the ceremony! When you cross the stage, you will hand this name card to Dr. Joy Bhadury, Associate Dean. He will read your name as you are receiving your diploma cover.
Processional, Welcome and Introduction
Graduates will be lined up by order in which they will march. Ceremony marshals will lead the graduates to their seats. Remain standing until directed by Dean Banks to be seated. Dean Banks will welcome the graduates, faculty, and guests and provide a short introduction into the program.
Student and Faculty Awards
Recognition of students and faculty receiving awards will follow the introduction. If your name is called to receive an award, please exit your seat to the nearest aisle and approach the stage from the right. Once you have received your award exit the stage on the opposite side and return to your seat.
Graduate Recognition – Don’t forget your card!
Diploma covers will be awarded directly thereafter. A ceremony marshal will direct graduates to the stage. Beginning with the first row, graduates will exit their seats to the right. One row at a time, they will approach the stage from the right side. Subsequent rows of graduates will remain seated until directed to the stage by a ceremony marshal. Remember to bring your name card with you when you approach the stage. When your name is called, approach the Dean to receive his congratulations and cross the stage to accept your diploma cover from your Department Chair. Accept the diploma cover with your left hand and use your right hand to shake hands with the Department Chair. A ceremony marshal will direct you back to your seat.
YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR DIPLOMA ON GRADUATION DAY! You will receive your diploma cover at the ceremony, and your diploma will be sent to you by mail after all degree clearances are completed by the university.
As each graduate is handed his/her diploma, a picture will be taken by a professional photographer. You will receive an email from the photographer with a link to their website, www.photospecialties.com, and a password that allows you to view and order your graduation photos online.
After the diploma covers are awarded, graduates will be instructed to stand and a ceremony marshal will direct each row of graduates out of the auditorium. Faculty members will be present in the lobby to meet with graduates and their guests and will be organized in designated areas according to department. Please listen for announcements at the end of the ceremony and check your program for meeting locations, and arrange ahead of time to meet with your guests in these areas after the ceremony.
